First Steps!

Today, Luke finally took his first steps! He has been walking assisted since January. First, he started with the walking toys he got for Christmas. (Thanks Aunt Kristi!) Followed by walking the furniture as his hands remained on the couch and ottoman. Next, he began scaling walls with both hands for support. At times, just one hand. He would hold on to our fingers and walk, but as soon as we tried to let go, he would sit down. He just did not have the confidence. We knew he could do it all alone, but he was not ready. Until now.

Today, he was playing with the golf club set from his Uncle Raul and Aunt Karla. Owen was showing him how to hit the ball with the club. Luke would giggle every time. Then we both watched it happen. Luke held the golf club with both hands as he stood in the center of the room with no support. He stood there all alone for one minute and took his first two steps! Then he calmly sat on the floor.

Owen and I were in shock and so excited! We have been waiting for this day for months. I know it was just two steps, but an even bigger milestone. It is also a positive step in the right direction. No pun intended. ;-)
